Warwick has a flipping good time

A SLIGHTLY belated Shrove Tuesday panned out well for those racing on the streets of Warwick.

The annual Warwick Pancake Race organised by the Rotary Club of Warwick was held a week later than usual owing to half term, but saw young and old take over Market Square on Tuesday (February 24) afternoon.

Warwick Mayor Moira Ann Grainger and new Town Crier Michael Reddy set off 20 teams from six local schools as hundreds lined the square to cheer on everyone with frying pans in hand.

And it was a flipping double for Westgate this year as their year 2 and year 6 teams won both the junior and infant categories while a team from The Globe Hotel took the adult title.

The event was supported by local businesses with Tesco providing prizes and cream eggs for all the youngsters, The Globe Hotel serving up pancakes, and Thomas Lloyd making coffee to keep the crowds warm.

Rotary president Jackie Crampton said: “This is one of the events we arrange for the community and we are delighted local businesses have joined in this year.”
