Warwick Pancake Races

Leamington Editorial 10th Feb, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

THEY were going flippin’ crazy in Warwick on Tuesday (February 9).

The annual Warwick Pancake Races saw young and not so young grab a frying pan for a dash round Market Place in the cold but in the sunshine.

Warwick Mayor Mandy Littlejohn set off 25 teams from local primary schools – with Emscote leading home the infants, and Westgate the juniors. They were cheered on by over 200 children and a crowd of parents and passers by.

Sponsors Tesco beat all comers among the taller contestants, including teams from The Globe, Martin Carty Services, and Batter Run Warwick.

The Globe restaurant supplied hot pancakes and Thomas Lloyd served coffee to keep the crowds warm.

Jackie Crampton, of organisers Warwick Rotary Club, said: “This is one of the events we arrange for the local community. We had a full turnout of club members and were delighted that Peter Davey, National President of Rotary GB&I was able to drop by and watch the races.”
