Kenilworth road safety taken on by councillors

ACTION is being taken in Kenilworth to tackle road safety concerns.

Residents campaigned for two years for pedestrian safety measures on Birches Lane.

And it paid off when Warwickshire county councillors Alan Cockburn and Dave Shilton agreed to pay for a pelican crossing from their Delegated Area Budget – cash allocated to councillors to fund schemes in their areas.

Coun Dave Shilton said: “This road has become busier and faster over recent years and we feel the safety of pedestrians has become a real issue.

“The road is too narrow for a zebra crossing or pedestrian refuge so a pelican crossing was the only answer.”

Warwickshire County Council is now carrying out a routine consultation.
