Goodbye to Leamington's Blighty Bazaar

UPCYCLING and vintage lovers are saying goodbye to an Aladdin’s cave of unique goods.

Retro and vintage shop Blighty Bazaar has announced it will be closing its doors permanently on Thursday after the landlord made the decision to redevelop the premises.

And owner, Amy Young, has been unable to find somewhere suitable in the town to relocate to but she is staying positive and looking to the future.

The 31-year-old and her uncle, Les Sutton, set up the Kenilworth Street shop in October 2013, housing some 110 sellers selling everything from retro games to vintage clothes.

While Amy is not sure what the future will hold for her, she wants to go out on a high.

She told The Observer: “It’s upsetting that we have to close but I’m not going to be sad about it because my focus is making sure everything goes smoothly until April 7.

“We’ve had so much support from customers and plenty of people have come in since we announced we were closing, making sure they don’t miss out on our stock.

“I would never have made the decision to close but finding somewhere big enough, in our price range hasn’t been easy.”

Blight Bazaar established itself as a vintage force to be reckoned with when less than a year after opening its doors, it was crowned Best Regional Shop in the Midlands at the 2014 National Vintage Awards.

It is believed the landlord intends to redevelop the premises into two smaller retail units with student accommodation above but a planning application is yet to be submitted to Warwick District Council.
