Kids Run Free Olympic event in Leamington

AN OLYMPIC Games-themed event in Leamington is aiming to get kids up and active.

With Rio 2016 fast approaching, Kids Run Free has organised a Festival of Sport to give youngsters the chance to try new sports for the first time.

The event, which takes place on Saturday June 11, from 10am to 2pm in the Pump Room Gardens, will feature displays and activities delivered by sports and activity providers.

Former GB 200m sprinter Owusu Dako, and Peter Frazier, a Leamington athlete who has represented GB at the World Transplant Games, will be on hand to give advice tosporting youngsters..




The event is open to all ages and the Leamington-based charity is expecting around 500 children and their families to join in the festivities.

There will also be a children’s marathon where teams of 12 can run seven laps each of the Pump Room Gardens with each participant receiving a medal and goody bag.

* PUPILS at Leamington’s Campion School are certainly on the ball when it comes to finding the next sport leaders.

Some of the school’s existing leaders have successfully applied for funding from Crimebeat, which will now be used to support the training and development of younger sports leaders.

The school has also been given a starter leadership pack including bags, clipboards, notepads and pens.

Training sessions will continue over the summer ahead of the new school year in September.
