Youngsters in the running to have fun

FUTURE sports stars put their best foot forward in Leamington.

The Pump Room Gardens played host to the Kids Run Free Festival of Sport which aimed to get youngsters passionate about sports in the run up to the Rio Olympics.

Around 180 runners took part in the Kids’ Marathon Challenge, completing some 675km between them. They were awarded goody bags, a Kids Run Free t-shirt and a medal for their efforts.

Warwick and Leamington MP Chris White and town mayor Anna Morrison presented the youngsters with their medals.

And the event welcomed special guests Peter Fraizer – who was a 2012 Olympic torchbearer and the first transplant survivor to run a marathon – and Team GB sprinter Owusu Dako who competed in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
