HYGIENE offences have seen the former owner of a Kenilworth restaurant fined more than £2,000.
Wai Kin Fu, who ran Taste of the Orient, was found guilty of seven offences at Nuneaton Magistrates’ Court following a prosecution by Warwick District Council for breaking Food Hygiene Regulations.
Fu agreed to close the Warwick Road restaurant for two days following an inspection last November until the public health risk had been removed.
They included having a lack of running hot water and hand soap at the wash hand basin, a lack of running hot water to sinks within the premises, and rodents in an outside food store.
Fu also admitted failing to implement a food safety management system, a lack of food grade disinfectants and failure to keep both the premises and food surfaces clean.
He was fined a total of £2,000 and ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge fee while Warwick District Council was awarded £500 in costs.
Coun Moira-Ann Grainger, district spokeswoman for community safety, said: “We would like to use this case to highlight to all involved in the district’s food businesses that the health and safety of our residents is always our priority.
“Enforcement action will be taken when serious breaches of legislation are discovered and there is blatant disregard for food hygiene.”
Taste of the Orient is now under new ownership.
