PEOPLE across the county are being encouraged to cut down on their carbon footprint by sharing lifts.
With the average car in Britain clocking 7,900 miles each year, Warwickshire County Council have collaborated with Liftshare to ensure less cars are on the road and fewer carbon emissions.
Liftshare, an online company which mixes people travelling to a location with people requiring transport, is spearheading the campaign to reduce road miles.
Reducing fuel costs and mileage, car-sharing also helps provide company on solitary journeys into work – and reduces the number of cars on the road which in turn helps with congestion.
In Warwickshire, the scheme has been hugely successful after trade giants Jaguar Land Rover and Oscada backed the campaign.
JLR has more than 8,000 members across three sites, and more than 4,000 of those employees are now sharing lifts into work – saving members over 20million miles and £5million.
Coun Peter Butlin, deputy leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: “We are really keen for residents to join as the benefits both to the individual and to the region are extensive.
“I urge as many Warwick’s residents as possible to make joining the scheme their New Year’s resolution.”
