FIREFIGHTERS fearing job losses gathered outside Shire Hall in Warwick to protest ahead of the county council budget meeting.
More than 60 firefighter jobs were at threat as councillors faced some tough decisions over cuts to services and jobs – but in the end the fire jobs were not among them.
The council is looking for the Warwickshire brigade to share working arrangements with neighbouring Northamptonshire, including possible a single Fire Control Room.
No decisions have yet been taken on either the best location or the staffing structures.
There was good news with councillors agreeing to increase the budget for community safety work in Warwickshire by £200,000 for the coming year – specifically to provide increased support for the vulnerable.
