Princethorpe students show off robot wars skills

Leamington Editorial 8th Mar, 2017   0

THESE are the droids you’re looking for – students from Princethorpe College have exterminated the opposition in a regional robotics competition to reach the national finals.

Two teams from the college triumphed in local heats of the VEX IQ Robotics Competition – held at Princethorpe and Finham Park School in Coventry.

The Princethorpe teams won both the Skills Challenge and the Team Challenge.

The driving challenge saw the teams up against the clock with a minute to collect as many points as possible, while the team challenge involved working together to move blocks around with precision.

Team Titans, comprising pupils Sam Allen and Joe Watts, and Team Cybercharged Panda – Neve Badman, Pablo Scopes and Harvey Badman – will go on to compete in the finals at the Big Bang Fair at the Birmingham NEC in March.

School head of technology Paul Scopes said: “The children have worked really hard to produce robots that meet and master the challenges. It was a nerve-wracking, hard fought day and the result was in the balance until the final moments. We were delighted to sweep the board in both challenges and clinch the two places in the nationals.
