Sensory garden to help rehabilitation of patients with brain injuries

Leamington Editorial 28th Mar, 2017   0

A SENSORY garden will soon be be helping with the rehabilitation of patients with brain injuries at Leamington Hospital.

Warwickshire Private Hospital Trust (WHP) has made a £5,000 donation to the building of the garden which is set to open in the summer.

An obstacle course in the garden will help simulate everyday hazards around the home and garden in order to improve balance and mobility, and help increase patients’ confidence.

The project follows the success of a similar scheme in the Netherlands which almost halved the number of falls among patients.

It will complement the hospital’s existing therapy garden – which includes raised beds for patients to plant fruit and vegetables – and form another part of the hospital’s dedicated rehabilitation programme.
