Retained firefighters sought in Warwickshire

Leamington Editorial 19th Apr, 2017   0

WOULD-BE firefighters are being sought in Warwickshire.

Currently, there are over 100 retained firefighters in the county but more are needed to provide cover at retained stations on days, nights and weekends.

Retained firefighters usually live or work in their local community and carry a pager so they are always ready to respond to an emergency.

The role can be performed alongside any current career in agreement with the employer or outside normal working hours. The work attracts an annual retainer payment and an hourly wage in the event of a call out.

Keith McDermott from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue said: “We are we are looking to recruit people from all walks of life. No previous experience is needed, but common sense, self-motivation, compassion and the ability to work as part of a team is essential. You must also live or work within five minutes travel time of your nearest fire station and be over 18.

“The job is challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding careers you will ever have.”

Applications close on May 8. Visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk/beextraordinary for more information or to apply.
