RUGBY UNION: FORMER Wasps and Exeter Chiefs hooker Chris Whitehead has signed up as Kenilworth Rugby Club player-coach for the 2017-18 season, writes Sophie Freestone.

Whitehead spent four seasons at Chiefs, after joining them from Wasps, winning the 2014 LV Cup with the South West side.

Prior to his one year in High Wycombe, he played two seasons for Coventry having come through the Leicester Tigers Academy.

Other new players in the Kenilworth pack include prop Dan Minks who has represented the UAE – earning nine caps – and back row Charlie Stevens.

Stevens will join his uncle, scrum half Gareth Renowden, at the club having played for Leamington RFC since under-5s.

Former Walsall and Sutton Coldfield hooker Jimmy Scott has also signed.

In the backs, winger Dan Retter joins the club having played with Aberdeen Grammar RFC and Walsall RFC.

Winger/full back Ollie Sharples, who has spent the last six years playing for Whitchurch RFC, also joins the Glasshouse Lane outfit.

The 2017/18 season also sees the return of some familiar faces with Alex Selby back while Simon Tyler, who has spent the last two seasons in the Middle East playing for the Jebel Ali Dragons, returns.

Kenilworth’s first league game of the season takes place tomorrow (Friday) – a local derby against Leamington RFC at Glasshouse Lane.

Kick off is at 3pm.
