GENEROUS golfers swung into action to raise money for Barnardo’s.
Some 100 players took part in a competition at Warwickshire Golf and Country Club in Warwick, raising an impressive £35,000 for vulnerable and disadvanted children.
The were then joined by another 100 people who bid on an auction full of rare sporting items including a framed and signed British Lions shirt.
The event was organised by the charity and Network Rail, who have supported Barnardo’s for nearly three years.
Charity spokeswoman Bridget Dawson said: “We are sincerely grateful to the Network Rail volunteers for helping us to organise such an amazing fundraising event.
“The most popular auction prizes were offers to produce bespoke corporate films which raised more than £11,000, signed British Lions shirts which raised £1,800 and a remote-controlled mini Land Rover which raised £1,000.
“Some of the winning bidders generously donated their prizes back to Barnardo’s so that we could use them again elsewhere and raise even more money.”
