Claverdon miss out against dominant Stoke Old Boys

RUGBY UNION: STOKE Old Boys earned revenge from last season over Claverdon at the weekend, defeating the Warwickshire side 20-3.

Both teams entered Saturday’s Midlands Division Four West contest on a high having secured wins in their previous fixtures.

With the winner likely to go top of the league, Claverdon were on the back foot before a ball had been kicked with numerous players missing through injury.

Poor discipline from Claverdon resulted in Stoke taking an early lead from a penalty in the early minutes.

It got worse for the visiting side when Stoke registered their first try off the back of some smart play from the back.

Helped by the presense of Paul Stacey, Lewis Woodfield, and Ali Norman, Claverdon registered their first points with a penalty prior to half time.

But Stoke matched Claverdon’s kick, ending the half 13-3 ahead.

Though the visiting side dominated the start of the second half, Stoke stamped their authority on the game with a converted try ten minutes from time.

A determined effort in the closing stages came to no avail as Claverdon lost 20-3.
