ORANGE is the new white this season, according to lecturers at Warwick Trident College who dyed their beards for charity.
Jaguar Land Rover staff and apprentices raised over £1200 for charity as supervisor Lloyd Neal, had his beard dyed bright orange for Stand Up For Cancer, the UK-wide campaign to accelerate progress in life-saving cancer research.
The deed was done by engineering lecturer Ian Hall – who previously had his own beard dyed – in front of over 100 first year apprentices at the college.
Lloyd said: “I volunteered to dye my beard orange to support the worthwhile cause that Ian Hall is currently championing and suggested that in order to generate some extra funds, if the apprentices raised more than a £1,000, I would willingly dye my goatee orange. Suffice to say that within one hour of me making this pledge, the apprentices had raised over £250!
“The generosity of the apprentices is truly humbling. For them to raise so much money in a short amount of time shows what great apprentices they are.
“Not only are they training to become world-class engineers, they can take time out of their busy schedule to think about people who are not as fortunate as themselves.”
Lecturer Ian added he was deeply touched by everyone who supported the Stand Up To Cancer fundraising.
