A FAMILY-RUN ski and outdoor clothing store is celebrating after collecting two national awards.
Lockwoods, based in Rugby Road, picked up the best clothing retailer and best equipment retailer accolades at the Ski Club of Great Britain industry awards, held in London.
The awards represent a seal of approval from customers, Ski Club members and partners in the ski industry, who voted for Lockwoods as part of a national survey of around 30,000 people.
The judges commended Lockwoods’ focus on delivering excellent customer service and the loyalty of its customers.
Lockwoods was established four decades ago and is run by a third generation of the Grainger family – directors Nigel Grainger and his sister Maxine, along with Nigel’s daughter Hayley and Maxine’s son Oliver, all work in the company.
Lockwoods started as a camping and caravanning store before evolving into skiing, and specialises in boot fitting for skiers and walkers.
Customers have travelled to Leamington from across Europe to take advantage of the staff’s expertise.
“We are extremely proud to have been recognised with these two awards,” said Nigel. “We are not just selling high-quality products – we’re selling knowledge, attention to detail and great customer service.
“We feel we are right at the top of the tree when it comes to customer service. It’s potentially the difference between a cheap, ill-fitting ski boot which causes agony on the slopes, and a quality product which gives many years of use.”
“It is really nice to have recognition from our customers,” added Hayley. “It’s something which is really important to us – we pride ourselves on being a destination shop which goes the extra mile for its customers.”
The business, which employs 15 staff at the height of winter, sells a wide range of clothing for skiing, walking and dog walking, as well as working closely with schools in Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth to supply equipment for trips.
It stocks well-known brands including Berghaus, Lowe Alpine, Salomon and RAB.
