A REFUSED planning application to turn a homeless shelter into student flats could be overturned after an appeal was lodged.
The owner of the Priors Club on Tower Street recently applied to turn the building into three student flats with 19 bedrooms, which Warwick District councillors refused.
It is the third time an application to develop the site – which is used by LWS Night Shelter – has been refused in the past three years.
Councillors said the flats would result in to too many houses in multiple occupation in the area.
But Kuldeep Dhesi has now applied to the Secretary of State for Housing to appeal the decision.
The Priors Club building – which no longer operates as a bar – has been used by the night shelter for the past two years, and now provides hot meals, sleeping space and an opportunity to socialise to some 350 homeless people annually.
