Hospital director taking on arctic trek for charity

THE ARCTIC beckons for a dedicated hospital director.

Jayne Blacklay, director of development at South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, is taking on the Iceman Polar challenge to raise money for the Birth & Babies Appeal.

Jayne, who is also the trust’s deputy chief executive, is in training for a ski race which will take her across frozen fjords, through remote valleys and over sweeping glaciers – in temperatures as low as minus 30.

The team will fly to North East Greenland for the start of the race on April 20, and will aim to complete the 100km route in five days later weather permitting.

Jayne said: “This is going to be an extremely difficult race with freezing conditions throughout. I hope that I will be able to raise lots of money for the appeal through the challenge”.

Jayne is currently busy raising sponsorship for the £200,000 appeal for Warwick Hospital’s new midwifery led birthing centre which is due to open this summer. The appeal will fund equipment and enhancements beyond the NHS standard for the centre to ensure it is the best that it can be for mums-to-be and their families.
