EVERYTHING is ship-shape with 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts.
The group recently heard it would keep its Royal Navy Recognition – an honour only granted to 100 of the 350 Sea Scout groups in the UK – following a visit from inspectors.
Lieutenant Chris Carnie, who visited the scout hut in St Nicholas Park, was impressed with the group’s leadership and organisational skills.
He said: “My visit to 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts was an absolute pleasure and a great success. The organisation and leadership shown by the leader and all of his team was very impressive and easily the best that I have seen at a Navy recognised Sea Scout group.
“I cannot say highly enough how deserving 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts are of their Royal Navy status.
“The group has a very exciting future ahead.”
Being a recognised group enables the scouts to access grants, training and events.
Group leader Martin Stockbridge – who joined the group in 1996 – said: “It is a real honour for our leadership team to be praised so highly by the Royal Navy. I am very proud of all our leaders, young people and volunteers who all play a role in making the group so special.”
Martin hopes the group will be able to welcome more scouts through its doors through its ‘Build a Future’ project – aiming to raise £770,000 for a new headquarters, jetty and leaders.
