Budding entrepreneurs fund-raising for those in poverty-stricken countries

THE UMBRELLAS were up but things were far from miserable for budding business entrepreneurs in Leamington.

Youngsters from St Peter’s Catholic School took on a challenge to fund-raise for humanitarian charity Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), using umbrellas.

Children raised some £1,200 for the charity which helps those in poverty across the world.

Various fund-raising efforts included sponsored runs while carrying the umbrellas, selling them after giving them a make-over and photographing them for greetings cards.

School staff were delighted with the children’s efforts to help those less fortunate.

Teacher Phil Rooney said: “We knew our children would take this responsibility seriously and do their best to raise some money, but never in our wildest dreams did we think that they would be able to raise so much. £1,200 will make a massive difference to people’s lives and our children should be so proud of themselves.”
