Crackdown on repeat offenders helps reduce burglaries in Warwickshire

Leamington Editorial 20th May, 2019   0

A CRACKDOWN on ‘dangerous and prolific’ thieves has helped reduce the number of burglaries in Warwickshire.

There were 134 fewer burglaries over the last 12 months than the year before, dropping from 2,161 to 2,027.

Warwickshire Police says its focus on targeting the most persistent offenders has made it “as difficult as possible for criminals to operate in the county”.

Investigations have led to a number of long prison sentences over the past year, including two men from Rugby – one jailed for three years for burglary and fraud, and another for three-and-a-half years for burglary.

Det Supt Neil Harrison said: “Burglary is a crime that has a huge impact on victims and we are committed to tackling it.

“We use intelligence to ensure the most dangerous offenders are taken off the streets and brought to justice.

“This approach meant there were 134 fewer victims of house burglary in Warwickshire during the last year and it is important to recognise the hard work that has gone into achieving this.

“We are confident we can continue to cut the number of burglaries.”
