Volunteers give time to support south Warwickshire's most vulnerable

Leamington Editorial 14th Jul, 2019   0

VOLUNTEERS are giving their time to support some of south Warwickshire’s most vulnerable residents.

A number of ‘care navigators’ are working with South Warwickshire Foundation Trust to offer help to patients. The positions are being carried out by trust staff who are offering their time for free.

The role will see them build relationships, solve problems and work to link patients with organisations such as the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and local counselling to tackle issues such as isolation along with financial and emotional difficulties.

The trust says it will ensure all aspects of a patient’s health and wellbeing is being considered.

Spokeswoman Rosie McDonnell said: “There is strong evidence that the effect of social isolation is a risk factor of disease or dysfunction and can lead to early mortality. Our navigators will enable our patients to have fuller and more extended lives as a result of the support they will provide”
