Islanders in Bahamas offered support by Warwick Rotarians

ISLANDERS in the Bahamas are being sheltered in the wake of Hurricane Dorian by Rotarians in Warwick.

Winds up to 240mph tore through the island nation resulting in many losing their homes and belongings.

Warwick Rotary Club has responded by sending three ‘shelter boxes’ which can house up to 11 people and come with essentials including lighting, blankets and cooking equipment.

They are provided by emergency disaster relief charity Shelter Box which is supported by the club.

Rotary spokeswoman Margaret Morley said: “Working with Shelter Box, we can provide much needed aid now. These people are often left with nothing. Local people and schools all help us to raise funds for shelter boxes. So often they say to us ‘we want to help’ and we know that through Rotary our money will go to those who need it.

“Rotary also provides hands on help and will be there to help to rebuild, which may take years.

Warwick Clubs have a history of responding to many natural disasters all over the world but this can only be done with help from the public.”
