PUPILS at schools in Leamington marked the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
Following an assembly at Arnold Lodge on the theme of Remembrance was followed by a short service outside, before a two minute silence was observed at 11am to mark Armistice Day – commemorating the moment the guns fell silent bringing an end to the First World War.
And more than 1,400 pupils at North Leamington School came together to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in the service of their country.
North Leamington Headteacher Joy Mitchell said: “It is always very moving to stand in front of my whole school each year and witness the respect every student gives to the occasion.
“There is no other special occasion in the year when we all come together, and I am immensely proud of our ceremony each year. It is important that we continue to remind our school community of the great sacrifices made for us during the Great Wars but also the on-going bravery shown by service personnel around the world today.”
At Kingsley School pupils and staff gathered in the senior school garden.
The Last Post was played by Year 12 student Gemma Hotchkiss and, following a two minute silence, 35 year armed forces veteran and school bus driver Mr Glover laid a poppy wreath with a salute and a recital of the Kohima Epitaph.
