THE STARS were out in force on the green carpet in Stratford.

The opening night of the much-anticipated RSC production of David Walliams’ best-selling book The Boy in the Dress saw many famous names attend the Royal Shakespeare Theatre yesterday.

Among those attending was comedian turned children’s author Walliams and Robbie Williams who penned the show’s songs with long-time co-writer Guy Chambers, who was also there.

Other celebrities in attendance included comedians Alan Carr and David Baddiel, actor Taron Egerton who played Elton John in the recent film Rocketman, together with singers Natalie Imbruglia and Cerys Matthews.

RSC artistic director Greg Doran, who directed the production, arrived with RSC executive director Catherine Mallyon who was wearing a football scarf in keeping with the show’s theme.

Well-known local residents on the rather soggy green carpet included motoring journalist Quentin Willson and Harry Potter and Game of Thrones star David Bradley.
