CLEARY’S boxer Jordan Singh Tamara has displayed further signs of his promise by scooping a gold medal at the BUCS Boxing Championships on Sunday.

The three-day competition, which is contested by university students from across the UK, was won by Singh Tamara after a unanimous decision handed him the title at the expense of University of Nottingham boxer Nikias Ventouris.

It was a successful first bout of the year for the Leamington fighter, who combines his studies at the University of Sheffield with his training at the Ingle Gym.

Having returned home for Christmas, Singh Tamara trained at Cleary’s in preparation for the Championships, giving him the cutting edge needed to nullify the offensive style of Ventouris in the 69-75kg final.

Cleary’s head coach Edwin Cleary heaped praise on the fighter and believes he has what it takes to realise his potential.

“Jordan has all the skills and technique to become a top-class boxer,” he said.

“While in Sheffield, Jordan trains at the world famous Ingle Gym, which has produced some of British boxing’s greats.

“Jordan needs to push on now and show us the ability we all know he has.”
