HUNDREDS of protestors stepped out to oppose the felling of woodland to make way for HS2.
On Sunday (March 15) some 500 campaigners – many wearing masks of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s face – took part in the ‘Stand for the Trees’ rally through Cubbington and affected woods.
It also was a show of solidarity against a court hearing which is set to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) at Birmingham’s Business and Property Courts.
The injunction and possession order seeks to remove camps from Cubbington and Crackley Woods and prevent campaigners from setting up new camps on sites including Broadwells and Birches Wood.
Cubbington camp spokesman Matt Bishop – who previously walked 100 miles along the proposed line to London – said: “The rally was the last call potentially. It could have been the last chance to see parts of this woodland before it is destroyed forever.
“Felling three areas of precious local ancient woodland – Broadwells, Birches Wood and part of Crackley Woods – is despicable.”
