Award-winning garden gate opening for charity in Barford

A GARDEN gate in Barford will be opening to welcome visitors this weeekend (July 11 and 12).

Award-winning plantswoman Marie-Jane Roberts will be opening for the National Garden Scheme.

Visitors can admire a nature garden, rockery, and herb garden. There are also dedicated flower-beds, 180 dahlias grown for exhibition, and seven seating areas amid fragrant planted containers.

Berry bushes (logan, tay and bramble) surround seven vegetable plots and nine types of fruit trees including peaches, nectarine and cordon pears.

The garden at 6 Canon Price Road will be open both days from 2pm to pm. Entry is £5 (children free).

Plants – three for £10 – will also be on sale.

It marks Marie-Jane’s first opening for the NGS. It has a special poignancy as she remembers a “dahlia friend” who passed away aged 91 last summer. Supported locally by Macmillan Nurses, her friend was able to be cared for at home, and his wife spared a daily trip to hospital.

Visit www.ngs.org.uk to pre-book tickets.
