Police investigate unexplained death after body found in canal

POLICE are investigating an unexplained death after a man’s body was found in the canal.

The body of a man in his 30s was found in the Grand Union Canal close to Old Warwick Road in Leamington yesterday (Friday) at around 4pm.

The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.

While formal identification is yet to take place, the man’s next of kin has been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.




Det Insp Rich Simpkins said: “Enquires are in their early stages as we try to establish the circumstances leading to the man’s death.

“The public can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area as our officers continue to conduct their enquiries.


“At this time, we are treating the death as unexplained and we’re appealing for anyone that could help with our enquiries to get in touch.

“Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
