A PROJECT is set to help tourists in Leamington make the most of their visit to the town.

Preparations are underway to create a comprehensive ‘Wayfinding scheme’ led by Warwick District Council and supported by the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP).

The project is a key part of an investment programme ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Lawn Bowls and Para Bowls competitions taking place in Victoria Park.

In the coming months, ‘wayfinding’ specialists Whybrow Pedrola will be working with local stakeholders to understand how pedestrians and cyclists navigate the town.

The team, which has worked on visitor orientation projects for national art museum Tate Britain and stately home Castle Howard, will provide provide easily digested information and signs to locations with a rich history and unique character to the area.

Warwick District Council culture spokesperson Jan Matecki said: “The new wayfinding scheme will not only improve and enhance the experience for competitors and spectators arriving in Royal Leamington Spa for the Games, but will also provide a lasting legacy, helping to put our beautiful town, where it belongs on the list of best places to visit in the UK.”

CLWEP chair Nick Abell added: “This initiative will help visitors from across the world navigate their way through Royal Leamington Spa and enjoy the culture and history of the area as well as boost the local economy. By walking and cycling rather than using motorised transport, it will help to reduce carbon emissions so there will be further benefits for the wider community.”
