Tilsley keeps his nerve to seal Kenilworth victory with late penalty

KENILWORTH secured a last-gasp comeback victory to defeat hosts Ludlow 15-13 last weekend.

The result leaves Kenilworth third in Midlands One West, with only unbeaten Lichfield and Stoke on Trent above them as they welcome Malvern to Glasshouse Lane on Saturday (3pm).

A converted try put Ludlow 7-0 ahead but Kens gained parity when hooker Ollie Stone dived over from a driving lineout when Ludlow has just had a player sent to the sin-bin. Tyler Price landed the conversion.

A penalty allowed the Shropshire hosts to edge 10-7 ahead just before half-time. Another penalty opened the gap to six points but Kenilworth’s pressure gradually started to tell without reward.

Ludlow were back in the ascendancy when one of the Kens forward was sin-binned but the visitors had had opportunity with a five-metre lineout and Stone was pushed over.

Then with two minutes to play Nathan Tilsley, captain for the day, had the chance to win it with a penalty for a scrum offence 30 metres from the posts and he coolly slotted his kick.
