Warwickians urged to sing out loud

Leamington Editorial 17th Jun, 2022   0

A UNIQUE singing Warwick is leading the way in raising awareness of the extraordinary benefits of singing on health and wellbeing.

Warwick A Singing Town is already singing with over 1,600 children every week in local schools and is running singing workshops and supporting local choirs through events like the first ever Warwick Choral Festival.

However, it is the benefit of singing for happiness and health in the community that is really exciting for the project leaders.

Choral entrepreneur, Cerys Purser is leading the project’s approach to supporting health and wellbeing in the community and is already delivering inspirational singing sessions in five local schools.

Cerys has recently started Sing for Joy, a singing group that specifically supports wellbeing, in partnership with the local community centre in Chase Meadow.

The community development manager at the centre is Joannah Whitten and she is passionate about the benefits of singing for her community.

Joannah said: “‘Our first contact with Cerys came about through the local NHS social prescribers, and we spent a lot of time thinking about what sort of group we wanted one that would be inclusive, supportive and joyful.”
