THE grandson of Dick Turpin – the first black fighter to win a British boxing title – has begun to build his own legacy after winning his latest bout earlier this month.

Jerome Turpin secured a unanimous decision victory against a strong opponent from Nuneaton.

The Royal Leamington Spa Amateur Boxing Club fighter produced an impressive performance to come away with the win.

Jerome’s coach Dean Gunton said: “It was a great performance from Jerome, I’m looking forward to his journey and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him in this great sport.”

His grandfather Dick became British Middleweight champion in 1948 and trained his brother Randolph who famously beat Sugar Ray Robinson to win the world middleweight title in 1951.
