FOOTBALL – Leamington F.C. Loses Connor Taylor to Neighbours at Warwick F.C.

With the playing season over for the Southern Premier division, we have covered a lot of the recent signings and switch-ups you can expect in 2024/25.

Another one has hit the press – Leamington forward Connor Taylor is transferring away from the Brakes and to our neighbours at Warwick.

Leamington F.C.’s Promotion

Leamington’s last season was a rousing success, as the squad managed to get promotion from the Southern Premier Division Central to the National League North. As part of their promotion, Leamington F.C. will now get more exposure on National League TV – a dedicated streaming website for its games. Like many sports, alternative leagues of football are getting more attention thanks to the internet. This generally helps betting markets too, best seen with fighting sports where Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler odds have captured fan interest, with McGregor the favourite at -110. Along with visibility, internet-based viewership has also driven a lot of interest in MMA odds. The UFC doesn’t need much help marketing its fights nowadays but, in lower league football, Leamington F.C. is going to find a whole new audience.

As is tradition, the Brakes are using their well-deserved rest time to sort their roster. So far, that has included signing Coalville Town striker Tim Berridge and captain Joe Doyle-Charles, plus re-signing captain Adam Walker to secure him for play in the National League. It’s not all good news, however, as the F.C. have lost one of their longest-running players in Connor Taylor.

Connor’s Pro Career Moves

Connor got his start with Aston Villa, though he never got to make an appearance in their kit. Instead, he dropped down to Conference National for a month, on-loan with Tamworth F.C. A League One Walsall contract came next, though his only appearance was an away game against the Queens Park Rangers where Walsall lost 3-0.

A stint at Nuneaton Town followed, before he returned back to Tamworth for what was undoubtedly his best seasons of play. Playing in Conference North, Connor made 137 appearances for Tamworth, during which he racked up 14 goals. He was a popular player with Tamworth’s fans, coming in second for Supporters’ Player of the Year in a Twitter poll and later cinching the award. Naturally, he was offered a renewal contract by Tamworth but he preferred the scenery at Leamington instead.

This transfer to Leamington wasn’t his most recent stint here, but a 2018-21 run where he made 53 appearances and was behind one scored goal. He left for the Southern League’s Bromsgrove Sporting for the 2021-22 season but returned to Leamington in 2022. There he has stayed since, though he was borrowed by Barwell for the Southern League’s 2022/23 season.

Connor’s Warwick Transfer

Now Leamington F.C. manager Paul Holleran has confirmed that Taylor will be leaving the squad for the second time. Seeking a first team placement, Connor has signed up with the neighbouring team at Racing Club Warwick. When the Racers go to their first season back after promotion, Connor will be part of the squad.

In response to the news, Leamington F.C. are celebrating Connor as one of their longest-serving members of the Brakes. Holleran said that “Connor has been nothing but a pleasure to work with in his time at the club” adding that he and the club “wish him nothing but the best!”
