AS PRIME Minister Boris Johnson confirms the relaxed Christmas Covid rules will stay in England, a snap poll by YouGov has found 57 per cent of people believe the idea should be dropped and the current regulations stay in place.

During a lunchtime announcement by the PM today it was also revealed Scotland and Wales had strengthened their guidance for the period the eased rules were planned for – from December 23 to 27.

Mr Johnson said people ‘needed to take personal responsibility’ over what they decided to do.

The YouGov poll asked 3,586 Brits on Tuesday about what they thought of the idea to relax the rules.

As well as 57 per cent overall saying it should be scrapped, 31 per cent said the easing should go ahead as planned and 12 per cent said they were unsure.

In the different age ranges, 70 per cent of those aged 65 and over and 61 per cent of 50 to 64-year-olds want to scrap the relaxed rules plan.

More than half – 55 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds – think the current regulations should stay in place over Christmas and the lowest percentage came among the 25 to 49-year-olds – just 49 per cent of those in that range want to drop the relaxed Christmas regulations.
