An arty way to mark Refugee Week in Warwickshire

A FASHION show, a food sharing event and plenty of art marked Refugee Week in Warwickshire.

The activity-packed week aimed to honour refugees worldwide and recognise the strength and courage of individuals who have been forced to flee their home countries to escape conflict.

Warwickshire County Council invited residents across the county to participate in various activities that promote inclusivity, understanding, and solidarity. This year’s theme, “Our Home,” encouraged residents to reflect on the meaning of home, from local communities to the shared global environment.

A highlight of the week was a Refugee Runway show celebrating traditional clothing from countries around the world at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford.

A Taste of Home saw refugees share food that represents home to them at Stratford Methodist Church.

The week also saw the end of the “Our Home, Our Art” Youth Art Competition, where young talents from the county poured their creativity into artworks reflecting the theme “Our Home”.

Their artworks were displayed in libraries across Warwickshire throughout Refugee Week and the grand unveiling of the winners took place at Nuneaton Library.

And an Ukrainian ‘Our Home’ Art Exhibition was on show at All Saints’ Parish Church in Leamington. The free exhibition was organised by Whittle Productions in collaboration with ArtLab.
