Aspiring athletes have chance to access funding and star-studded mentoring sessions

ASPIRING athletes are being given the opportunity to become ‘sporting champions’.

Sports provider Everyone Active – which operates six leisure centres across the district in partnership with Warwick District Council – is calling for aspiring sports stars to apply for funding and support as part of its Sporting Champions scheme.

The scheme offers access to training facilities, financial support up to £5,000 and expert advice.

Athletes on the scheme can also join mentoring sessions led by some of Britain’s top sports stars, including Olympic medal winner Colin Jackson.

Duncan Jefford, director of the scheme, said: “Since launching in 2016 we have invested more than £300,000 in helping the next generation of sports stars to achieve national and international success.

“We are committed to offering support and funding for athletes from across the district and I would urge local athletes to apply for the scheme so we can help them on their journey.”

An online application form will be open until Friday February 16.
