DRAYCOTE Water has been closed to the public to limit the spread of coronavirus.
Owner Severn Trent has closed the site, along with its other visitor sites across the midlands, ‘for the foreseeable future’, and cancelled all events and activities such as watersports.
A spokesperson for the water company said: “After a very busy weekend, and with government advice for everyone to keep two metres apart, it became clear that it was sensible to close the sites.”
Draycote is a popular destination for walkers, runners and cyclists, as well as watersport enthusiasts.
The company’s visitor site experience lead Dominic Robinson said: “This wasn’t an easy decision but it’s absolutely the right decision as we try to help limit the spread of coronavirus.
“We know how popular the sites are but the wellbeing and safety of our visitors, communities and colleagues is the most important thing at this time.
“We’d encourage all of our customers to follow government guidelines to keep at least two metres apart and to not travel unless necessary.
“We hope everyone understands and supports our decision.”
