Easter activities to explore the women in Shakespeare's life

FAMILIES are invited to get hands-on exploring the stories of the women in Shakespeare’s life this Easter holiday.

A special series of events and activities for all ages will be taking place across Shakespeare’s family homes in Stratford from Saturday March 23, as the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust launches a new programme inspired by the remarkable women in Shakespeare’s life.

Highlights include daily performances in the garden of Shakespeare’s Birthplace, where the team from Events from History will act out some of Shakespeare’s most famous scenes, with a focus on the female stories told.

Visitors are invited to unleash their creativity as Shakespeare’s New Place welcomes female artists to the home of Shakespeare’s daughter, Susanna, to explore the impact of the extraordinary women who lived and worked at the property.

From poetry writing and circus skills to screen printing and calligraphy, visitors can create art, meet the artist and gain insight into the various techniques or processes used during the hands-on workshops.

Treasures discovered in the New Place dig, including Tudor piggy banks and toys, will also be on display at Shakespeare’s family houses.

SBT spokesperson Rachael North said: ‘’With Easter fast approaching we are delighted to unveil our new programme of events. We want our visitors, especially the little ones, to walk away not only learning something new about the life, work and times of William Shakespeare, but to also feel inspired about the Women Who Made Shakespeare. Our new programme offers a fresh way for visitors of all ages to uncover the remarkable stories of those closest to Shakespeare.’’
