Families invited to don their special backpacks at Shakespeare's houses this summer

FAMILIES are invited to don their special backpacks and get out and about in the grounds of Shakespeare’s Houses in Stratford.

Exploration backpacks are available at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage this summer packed full of butterfly nets, bug jars and animal footprints. Budding young adventurers can explore the abundance of biodiversity thriving at the place young Anne once called home.

There will also be a chance to make a pair of junk modelling wings and lavender bags,

And at Shakespeare’s New Place, budding artists can unleash their creativity at the place where Shakespeare is said to have written many of his most well-known plays. Creative explorer backpacks include chalkboards, viewing frames and stacking blocks. There will be poetry writing, circus skills, screen printing and calligraphy led by local female artists.

The activities, running over the summer holidays, form part of Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s programme of events shining a spotlight on the women that influenced Shakespeare.

SBT spokesperson Rachael North said: “With the summer holidays upon us, we are delighted to share our fun-packed programme of family-friendly events. From adventure backpacks to learning new skills with local artists, these events offer a great opportunity for families, especially our younger audience, to explore and engage with Shakespeare’s story in a fresh and exciting way.’’
