Fashion, food and art mark Refugee Week in Warwickshire

A FASHION show, a food sharing event and plenty of art celebrates Refugee Week in Warwickshire.

The activity-packed week – running until Friday (June 21) aims to honour refugees worldwide and recognise the strength and courage of individuals who have been forced to flee their home countries to escape conflict.

Leaving their homes is often just the beginning of a challenging journey.

Warwickshire County Council is inviting residents across the county to participate in various activities that promote inclusivity, understanding, and solidarity. This year’s theme, “Our Home,” encourages residents to reflect on the meaning of home, from local communities to the shared global environment.

A highlight of the week is the end of the “Our Home, Our Art” Youth Art Competition, where young talents from the county poured their creativity into artworks reflecting the theme “Our Home”.

Their artworks will be displayed in libraries across Warwickshire throughout Refugee Week and the grand unveiling of the winners will take place on Monday (June 17) at Nuneaton Library.

A Ukrainian ‘Our Home’ Art Exhibition will be on show at All Saints’ Parish Church in Leamington. The free exhibition has been organised by Whittle Productions in collaboration with ArtLab and is open daily from Monday (June 17) to Sunday June 23 from 10.30am to 5pm.

Storytelling sessions entitled Listening Circle: Stories from our home are being held on Tuesday (June 18) from 1pm to 5pm, at the Fred Winter Centre in Stratford.

Refugee Week documentary film screenings exploring the global refugee crisis run at Stratford Library from Tuesday (June 18) until Thursday (June 20) at 2.30pm.

Harbour Project Art Display will be at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum from Tuesday (June 18) until Friday (June 21) from 10am to 5pm.

Language Laboratory activities are being held at Milk and Mocha in Kenilworth from 10am until 4pm on Wednesday (June 19).

A Refugee Runway show celebrating traditional clothing from countries around the world will be held on Friday (June 21) from 12pm to 2pm at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford.

And A Taste of Home, which will see refugees share food that represents home to them, will take place on Saturday (June 22), from 2pm to 4pm at Stratford Methodist Church.
