A FORMER Southam mayor has donated nearly £2,000 to a cause close to his heart’.

Mike Brooks held a brass band concert in aid of the air ambulance and since has received donations from residents and local businesses towards the charity.

He handed over a cheque for nearly £2,000 representing money raised in capacity as former town mayor.

Mr Brooks said: “The air ambulance saved the life of a good friend of mine some years back when a vehicle accident could have otherwise proved fatal, and since then my wife and I have taken every opportunity to support them.”

Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance fund-raising executive Lee Bunting said: “We’d like to thank Mike Brooks for his continued support and donations to our charity.

“Support like this is more vital now than ever before as the charity is set to receive two brand new replacement helicopters early next year in order to continue providing the leading level of pre-hospital emergency care to the people of Warwickshire and beyond.”
