Moreton Morrell students find latest challenge a piece of cake

DEGREE students from Moreton Morrell College found their latest challenge a piece of cake – quite literally.

The 21 animal and equine students took part in a HE inter-college dissertation challenge held at Derby College’s Broomfiled Hall.

They were all tasked with creating a professional poster representing their dissertation research and could also choose to deliver their research in an oral presentation and even bake a cake which represented their research.

Around 180 students took part in total, and the categories had a first, second and third prize, with winners selected by both the judging panel and the students themselves.

The judging panel featured industry experts from Chester Zoo, Waltham Petcare Science Institute, Wheelgate Farm and Castlefield Kennels.

Moreton Morrell College won prizes in five of the six categories, with Laura Garcia Torres and Caludia Agrusa placing first and second respectively in the judges’ poster category, Emma-Jayne Woolley achieving third place in the judges’ oral category, Thomas Horn placing third in the students’ oral category, and Emma-Jayne Woolley impressing with her cake and placing third in the judges’ category and first in the students’ category.

Emma-Jayne Woolley said: “Participating in the inter-college challenge was an incredible opportunity.

“It allowed me to showcase the hard work I put into my dissertation and learn about the exciting projects my peers are working on.

“I’m so glad I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, and I was truly honoured to receive several awards.”
