A VAN driver is to stand trial following the death of a young motorcyclist in a three-vehicle crash in south Warwickshire.
Alan Springall pleaded not guilty at Warwick Crown Court to causing the death of Matthew Brain in August last year by dangerous driving.
The charge follows a collision involving Mr Springall’s Mercedes van, Mr Brain’s motorbike and a car on the B4100 at Warmington Hill near Gaydon in the early evening of August 31.
Emergency services rushed to the scene where paramedics found Mr Brain, who was in his 20s, in cardiac arrest.
And despite the efforts of the ambulance crew, who tried to revive him, he was confirmed deal at the scene.
After 60-year-old Mr Springall of Goodrington Crescent, Banbury, had entered his not guilty plea, prosecutor Peter Grieves-Smith told the court the trial was expected to take up to four days.
He pointed out it would have to be given a fixed date because it was expected there would be expert witnesses, and as a result it could not be listed until December.
So Deputy Judge Richard Griffith-Jones adjourned the case for trial, and Mr Springall was granted unconditional bail.
