Warwick children's author teams up with folk band on their new song

A CHILDREN’S book penned by a Warwick author and illustrator has inspired a brand new folk song.

Lot Lorien has teamed up with Diane Maybey to bring to life her book “Dream Animals – Bedtime Story” in a whole new, musical way.

Lot Lorien is a Leamington-based Bulgarian-British folk band who hope their new song “Dream Animals” will bring hope to children – young and grown-up – during these dark times.

It is hoped the song will be the first step in a new partnership dubbed “Lot Lorien Duo – Music for youngsters and music lovers”.

Band member Kiri Georgiev explained the collaboration came from a chance meeting with Diane when she was painting poppies in Warwick town centre.

Together they have created a single and video which feature Diane’s artwork and lyrics taken from her book.

And this is not the first time Lot Lorien has collaborated with local talent.

Back in 2021, the band met folk musicians Jake Wilson and Adam Jurewicz in Jephson Gardens and the result was an album called “Common Ground” which was heavily influenced by where they met.

Kiri said: “Our new project “Lot Lorien Duo” combines, again the creative efforts of local authors, artists, musicians and performers of various nationalities from Bulgaria, Poland and the UK located in Leamington, Kenilworth and Warwick – a wonderful example of the unique and vibrant creative environment in our local area.

“This song is our humble, cordial gift to all children- small and grown-up – in the UK and the whole world with the hope of bringing peace, light and beauty in these difficult and turbulent times for all of us.”
