Warwickshire 'timebanks' spreading the spirit of giving

Leamington Editorial 3rd Dec, 2020   0

THE SPIRIT of giving is spreading across Warwickshire thanks to a growing number of timebanks.

Warwickshire County Council is calling on individuals and community groups to give some ‘Time4Christmas’ by contributing to a timebank – which brings together volunteers to help, and receive help from, their neighbours.

It allows people to volunteer their skills or an hour of their time to someone who might need it, in return for an hour of someone else’ time.

The Time4Warwickshire scheme links prospective volunteers with their nearest timebank, while also encouraging more to be set up across the county.

County councillor Heather Timms said: “Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Warwickshire residents who have found themselves vulnerable and isolated without access to support from family, friends or neighbours as a result of the pandemic have been offered an incredible amount of help through the county’s voluntary groups and growing number of volunteers, in addition to direct help from Warwickshire County Council.

“Christmas is the time of the year that we need each other more than ever, this Christmas more so than ever. By offering skills and support to neighbours and supporting our communities better and stronger, volunteers make a huge contribution to our county.

“With a focus on the different ways in which we can support our friends, families, colleagues and communities, timebanking is a fantastic way of using your skills to help others, getting help for things you need and, most wonderfully of all, continuing to make a difference in your community.”

Anybody thinking of joining or setting up a timebank can email [email protected] or search Time4Warwickshire for more information.
