Water back on after taps run dry in Rugby and Southam

WATER supplies are back on in Rugby and Southam after the thaw caused an unprecedented number of pipe leaks.

Residents experienced low pressure or interruptions to their water supplies during Sunday evening (March 4).

Most supplies have returned to normal this morning (Monday March 5) after Severn Trent Water worked overnight to fix burst pipes.

But a spokesman said there may still be poor pressure or intermittent supplies while the network is restored to its full capacity.

He added: “We predict there will still be further bursts due to the weather, so we ask anyone who spots a leak to let us know as soon as possible.

“When water freezes within a pipe it expands, often causing pipes to split or joints to pull apart, and then when it thaws the water will start to leak out.

“During the cold weather, a lot of pipes will have burst but they’re only starting to leak now the temperatures have increased and the water has thawed.”
