OCTAVIAN Droobers Orienteering Club members participated in the popular annual multi day orienteering summer festival held this year in the Lake District.

The five individual day events were staged at different locations around the Lake District with courses on remote moorland fells and steep wooded areas.

Over 1000 entrants came from all over the UK and Europe to compete in this premier event as club members enjoyed some great runs on tough technical areas with several podium places achieved.

Overall results, after five events, included a first place finish by Alistair Landels on the M50 courses and another first place by Juliet Soulard on the W50 course.

And second places were awarded to Nathan Lawson competing in the M21 Long class, Anne Straube on the W45 Long class and Sheila Carey in the W75 age class.

Junior club members also took part in the festival as Andrew Tang, competing in his first multi day event, placed fifth overall in the M10 class with Max Straube-Roth seventh in the M14 class.

Other top-10 positions went to: Hilary Simpson seventh W80, Trevor Simpson 10th M80, Peter Carey eighth M75, Barry Elkington ninth M65 and David Lawson 10th M55 all running in their respective Long age class.

On the short age class courses Mykyta Chubynsky was third M45 and Paul Gregson was fourth M40.

The club are holding two events, to which newcomers will be especially welcome, with the first taking place on Sunday, August 21 at Rough Close Scout Camp, near Coventry from 10.30am until 11.30am followed by the second on Wednesday, August 24 at University of Warwick Campus at 6pm.
