RUGBY Artistic Swimming Club continued their impressive season with an outstanding performance at the Warwickshire and Staffordshire Invitational Artistic Swimming Championships at Walsall Gala Baths.

Rugby’s swimmers brought home a remarkable haul which included 17 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals.

The championships are one of the biggest and most significant competitions of the season for Rugby with 63 swimmers from all of the club’s competitive squads represented across the four age groups – 12 years and under, 13-15 years, 15-18 years and champs.

Swimmers received a Warwickshire placing as well as an overall (Invitational) placing for their individual figures, and their solo, duet, and Free and Combination (Combo) Team routines.

And Rugby’s first medals of the day came in the figures competition (set moves that must be performed by individuals) as five of the club’s swimmers took home nine medals – five silver and four bronze.

Lola Huett (12 and under), Alexa Holland (13-15), Charlie Putt (15-18) and Emily Dakin (champs) won silver whilst Tyra Watson (13-15) won bronze in the Warwickshire competition.

And Lola also won silver in the overall competition with Alexa, Charlie and Emily taking bronze in their respective age groups.

A further six medals, three silver and three bronze, followed for Lola, Kitty Tyers (12 and under), Alexa (13-15 years) and Matilda John (15-18 years) in the solo competition.

Lola won silver in both the Warwickshire and overall competitions whilst Alexa won silver and bronze respectively with Kitty and Matilda taking bronze in the Warwickshire event.

Also representing Rugby in the solo competition were Saranne Black (12 and under) and Chloe Bartholomew (13-15 years) who performed beautiful routines with Lola receiving the highest overall score in her age group whilst Chloe had the second highest overall score in her age group.

The medals continued to flow for Rugby in the duet pairs event with four golds’, three silvers’ and three bronzes’ courtesy of Lola and Kitty, Chloe B and Imogen Ravenhall (13-15 years), Matilda J and India Townsend (15-18 years), Jessica Farndon and Maisie Grinter (champs) and mixed duet pair Keva Ennis and Aaron Lee (12 and under).

Gold medals were won by Lola and Kitty in both competitions whilst Keva and Aaron also topped the podium in their age group in both competitions to remain unbeaten as the reigning Midlands and National champions.

And Chloe and Imogen and Matilda and India won silver with Jessica and Maisie taking bronze in the Warwickshire competition.

The trio of duets also won medals in the overall competition with Matilda and India claiming silver and Chloe and Imogen and Jessica and Maisie earning bronze in their respective age groups.

Also representing Rugby were Jagoda Czuplak and Ariane Sargent (15-18 years), Lola Dudkowsky and Olivia Tyers (15-18 years and champs) and Jessica F and Maisie G (champs).

Matilda and India received the joint highest score for their routine in the 15-18 age group whilst Lola and Olivia posted the second highest score for their routine in the champs category.

Lastly, Rugby had seven entries in the teams event (two free and five combo) as they almost swept the board for gold medals in both competitions with a phenomenal performance across all four age groups – 13 gold’s and one silver.

Rugby’s two free teams (12 and under and 13-15 years) and four of their combo teams (12 and under Division 1, 13-15 years Division 1 and Division 2 and champs) each won gold in the Warwickshire and overall competitions.

And Rugby’s 15-18 years Division 2 combination team won gold in the Warwickshire competition and silver overall.

Head Coach Hannah Secher said: “I am really pleased with the whole club effort into these Championships.

“We are coming to the end of our competitive season now and this was a great whole club effort and performance with great results.”

For some swimmers the championships signalled the last competition of the season in what was a final chance to represent the club before moving on.

And for others, the event was an opportunity to practice routines locally before the upcoming national ‘Combo Cup’ competition which will be held at the London Aquatics Centre next month.
